Want to watch a Kdrama with a good plot, music and love triangle? Then Trot Lovers is the show for you! Trot Lovers follows the life of Choi Choon Hee (Jung Eun Ji), a marathon runner with a natural talent of singing. In order to pay off her family’s debt, Choon Hee makes a life changing decision to become a trot singer. Along the way, she meets Jang Joon Hyun (Ji Hyun Woo), an arrogant and stubborn pop star who’s hit rock bottom and Jo Geun Woo (Shin Shung Rok), the CEO of the company she works for. Will she be able to handle the problems that come her way and make it to the top?
Since the beginning of the show, I instantly liked Choon Hee’s character. She’s a kind hearted girl who’s going through some troubled times. Due to her father’s absence, she’s been given the responsibility to look after her little sister and pay off her father’s debt. Basically, she’s the bread winner of the family. In order to live a better life, Choon Hee goes through the journey of becoming a trot singer, like her mother.
In the first few episodes, she has many chance encounters with Joon Hyun, a pop star who thinks very highly of himself. After a few mishaps, Joon Hyun finds himself at rock bottom with his career on the line. In order to save his career, Joon Hyun takes on the task of becoming Choon Hee’s manager and helping her become a singer. They start off having a love-hate relationship and end up falling in love.
Choon Hee get signed by Shin Star entertainment agency, whose CEO is Jo Geun Woo. Geun Woo is a cynical yet charming man, who instantly gets attracted to the kind hearted spirit of Choon Hee and forms a crush on her. Although Joon Hyun’s not willing to admit it in the beginning, he too starts liking Choon Hee. This starts the love triangle. Luckily, for this show I was narrowly able to miss Second Lead Syndrome (SLS). (Thank God!)
Now, how could there be a Kdrama without a mean girl? This girl is none other than Park Soo In, a trainee at Shine Star agency who has a crush on Geun Woo. The arrival of Choon Hee spikes her jealousy causing her to mess with Choon Hee’s work and love life. Ranging from fake scandals to attempted murder, Soo In goes out of her way to destroy Choon Hee. However, I do feel sympathy towards Soo In. Although she did many wrongs against Choon Hee, I feel pity for her character. Though she did come from a wealthy family, she has to live up to the expectations of never pleased mother.
Trot Lovers is a great show that I loved so much, I finished it in a day! I love watching stories where the girl helps the man change his arrogant ways to become a better person. I will admit, in the beginning, I really didn’t like the main lead but he really grew on me. Trot Lovers is a light hearted drama full of romance, comedy and drama. The only time I was slightly disappointed by the show was in the last episode. I felt as though the ending was rushed and it could have had a better ending. Regardless, Trot Lovers is a phenomenal Kdrama that I highly recommend you to watch!
